Everyday I install and set up WordPress sites for my clients, and to keep myself organized from the installation and plugins I created a list for myself that I used every single time. This list contains must-have for every sites that I do, and I am sharing it with you so you won’t have to sort these kind of things out.
These plugins may not fulfill your needs, but it does cover the very basic that a blog requires for you to suceed.
WordPress Plugins List
1. Akismet
This plugin is smart enough to differentiate between a good comment and spam comment. This plugin will automatically send all spammy comments in to Spam folder and you will just need to moderate and reply back to quality comments only.
This is really an important one, if you are serious about SEO or just a newbie this plugin will help you a lot! It covers xml sitemap and Google authorship. Here is a guide on how to set it up properly (link).
You can use this plugin to add a contact form into your blog posts and pages etc. There are lots of customization options available with this plugin that you can use as per your need like you can modify the number and type of fields you want to show on your contact forms.

5. WP-Optimize
This plugin will keep your database optimize and clean, I use this whenever there’s a lot of spam and revisions since it can bloat your database. It’s one-click optimize too.
6. WP-Smush.it
This plugin will help in reducing the size of images that you are uploading on your blog. Best thing about this plugin is that it used to run in background and you don’t need to do anything after installing it into your plugins directory. And since website load time becomes one of rankings factor on Google, plugins like WP Smush.it will be really helpful in improving the speed of your blog by lowering down the size of images available in your blog contents.
This plugin is used for speeding up your WordPress performance. It is meant to optimize and improve overall working of your WordPress page and increase the download speed many times higher than the usual speed. If you have configured it properly, then it increases the speed of your web page by 10 times, users will experience instant page views. This plugin saves bandwidth up to 80% by caching.
8. Digg Digg
This is created by Buffer and has support in excerpt type mode. You can customize all sharing options to your blog from Facebook, twitter, buffer to many more. It’s a useful plug because it increases the performance of the WordPress page giving a unique platform to share the post from a single source.
9. WP Touch
This plugin will turn your website into a mobile optimized site, this is really cool to cater more audience and more view for your site. It has a free and pro version, the pro offer more features that you might need.
10. Pop up Domination (Optional)
This is really optional since it’s a premium plugin, but most of my clients ask me to install them that I included them on the list. This pop up plugin will turn your email list to the roof! This plugin uses a pop up that a visitor sees when he visited your site for the first time, and it will convert that visitor into a subscriber or lead for your marketing purposes.
Like I said, this list may-or-may not fit in your requirements but it does cover a lot of your needs, from social media to SEO and lead generation it can help you to succeed. You should also always update your plugins to keep your website secure, and always make a back up.
