I mean imagine you come across  a very good website that appears to be visually appealing but is poorly designed including various aspects that irritate you so much that you without any adieu close it and look for any other user-friendly website instead.

Obviously, why would anyone want to stick to a website that irritates with stuff that might be of use to the owner of the website but not the viewer. All a viewer wants is a simple, user-friendly website with great informative content. Bugging stuff which makes it hard to look for what that particular website/blog was opened up is a simple no when it comes to viewers choice.  At this point, I would like to mention article - Characteristics of A Great User Interface Design.

The Worst Trends in Modern Web Design

1. Be-fooling web users to get page views

Undeniably, online business has become the source of living for quite a lot of people and website owners are trying to act smart to get more and more page-views. It will get you good number of page views for one or two days but is definitely a wise idea. Obviously, web users out there are not dumb that they won’t understand your trick. Remember, the last time you came up with a list that asked you to click ‘Next’ every time you wanted to check out the proceeding points.

Unless, you have come up with a unique and engaging content your viewers won’t want to click the ‘Next’ tab time and again. Imagine how bugging it is. The simple list with maximum one or two pages (if the list is long) is suggestive.

2. Acting smart with ads

I don’t deny the fact that advertisement bring in good revenues but how does that mean you can act smart with placing the ads. Placing the ads such a way that your users get misled gets a thumbs down. Web users on learning your trick will definitely not want to come back to your website so how does acting smart with ads work for you. Infact, it is marring the whole purpose.

Placing ads is obviously important but not at the cost of your viewers patience. Overuse of ads or disguising the ads and making it look like a content might fool up the viewer once but not always. Once the reader comes to your trick he/she will ensure not to click your text.

3.  Pop-up windows

I remember opening up a website and simple click on a link opening up innumerable advertisements. Closing them down took time and hanged up my systems. There and then I decided not to open up the link of that website. Obviously, this is so bugging. Adding those lame pop ups that appear when a user clicks on something on your website doesn’t work. Examples of other lame pop-ups are ‘Like this Page’ , ‘subscription’, ‘Follow’ Offer pop ups and similar ones.

4. Horizontal Scrolling

Everyone on Internet is used to vertical scrolling. Trying to make a shift is definitely not a wise idea. Users don’t navigate websites horizontally. Besides that ‘ Drag And Drop’ technique too is not good. Web users have been following the simple vertical scrolling and easy ways out so avoid following this trend that asks them to go against all normal instinct. Sticking to age old style is definitely a wise idea in this case.

5. Autoplay

There are various websites that when opened or any link is clicked, an auto play starts out of the blue and you start wondering where did the music start playing from. Not just audios, these days videos too starts playing at the background. This actually is very annoying.

6.  Sharing buttons

Putting sharing buttons like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Google +, StumbleUpon and few like these that are needed for sharing if someone likes your article is fine but putting unnecessary sharing buttons appear annoying. There are many social networking buttons that are not in these days. What’s the point putting the unnecessary sharing button and annoying the users in the quest to find the one s(he) is looking for.

7. Mystery Meat Navigation-Secret Navigations

Hiding or animating the displaying menus is becoming thing of the day but unfortunately it is not getting a good response from the web users. Getting creative with displaying the menus is dubbed as Mystery Meat Navigation. Obviously, a user would want to click a link but leaving your readers wandering is not a smart idea. The menu should be as simple as it can be. Animated slide out, fading in, icons or images with no text doesn’t sound to be a wise idea.
